Welcome to West Lothian

West Lothian lies on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth and is predominantly rural. There was extensive coal and iron mining operations in the 19th and 20th centuries, these created distinctive red spoil heaps (locally referred to as bings) throughout the area.

The largest town is Livingston, other large towns include Bathgate and the historic mining settlements of Armadale, Whitburn, Uphall and Broxburn. The area rises from the lowlands in the north to the Pentland Hills in the southeast, while the southwest is moorland.

There are several public country parks within the region including Beecraigs Country Park, Polkemmet Country Park and Almondell and Calderwood Country Park.

Some of the other towns and villages found in the region include; Addiewell, Blackburn, Broxburn, East Calder, Kirknewton, Linlithgow, Livingston Village, Polbeth, Torphichen, Fauldhouse and Wilkieston.
